our film for the food foundation is changing government policy...

Earlier this year we collaborated with the Campaigns team at The Food Foundation to create an animated film highlighting the poor quality of most school food.

The film is narrated by Dame Emma Thompson alongside the Foundations’ Food Ambassadors who eloquently represent the need for their generation to be properly nourished in school.

The Lunch They Deserve was hand drawn in 2D by Oli Smyth and scripted&voice directed by Ceri Barnes.

The film has been part of the storytelling effort that has lead to The School Food Project and a Government announcement on April 13th setting out new guidelines and compulsory monitoring of school catering to better nourish our kids in school, and so with the simple provision of a properly healthy lunch let them know that society cares about their flourishing and growth.

So impressive. So straightforward. So compelling. What a good way to communicate Sir Michael Marmot CH, director - UCL institute of health equity.

We won an RTS Craft Award!!! Which was nice

At the RTS Craft awards in December ’24 Oli was awarded the Program Content Sequence award.

“The jury were so impressed with this entry that they selected it as an outright winner.  There was a softness and humanity to this sequence lifting it out of the normal genre of ’science graphics’ beautifully matched to the warmth and tenderness of the programme narrative.”
